I had a conversation with a friend the other day that really threw me off center. But the more I thought about it, the more I began to see that maybe my original position had been just a little south of center. After my initial indignation, I kept working with the feelings that had been stirred – and they went deep! She had caused me to question some core beliefs.
Finally, this morning during my meditation, I got an image of myself clinging to the shore. Apparently I’d been there so long, I was covered in sediment. I could feel the weight of holding that perspective and suddenly, without thinking, I let go. Next thing I knew, I felt myself floating freely in the current.
My friend kept saying to me, “This is different from how you’ve ever made a change before.” It took getting knocked off center to gain a different perspective. With a new perspective I see fresh options. Next, finding the courage to choose them!
