Try not to cling!

Here we are! We survived 2020. Did you get your T-shirt? All I know at this point is that I’m in a very different place than I was a year ago. How about you? The world looks unrecognizable.

This month, it’s important to take your time. Try not to rush into making any big decisions about your future. There’s nothing wrong with musing, visioning, considering possibilities. In fact, it’s encouraged. But setting anything in motion should be considered carefully.

Here’s why.

The energy for the month is still part of the torrid currents from last year. It’s moving, changing, shifting, re-arranging. Making plans right now is like trying to change rafts in the middle of the rapids. Not a good idea.

Give the energy some time to settle down – the end of February looks better. Then you can begin to implement steps in a new direction.

If your life this month is just more of the same with no big plans on the horizon, then this part is for you. Take note: Nothing is the same. Everything is shifting. Be agile. Be ready for anything. Try not to hold onto anything or anyone too tightly.

The first (and only time) I went river rafting, the guide told us that when we hit rapids, we should slide our feet under a rope in the bottom of the raft for stability. He warned: Do NOT hold onto the upper rope with your hands. Of course, the first rapid we hit, I forgot all the instructions and grabbed onto the rope with my hand. I’ll never forget how close my arm came to snapping as our raft was jerked about by the turbulent current. Lesson learned. Holding on too tightly in rapidly changing times can be hazardous to your health.

This year begins with rapids. Agility is key. Do not cling to anything. I repeat. Do not cling.

Scary as it was, my ride down the rapids was exhilarating and memorable. And this month can be, too. Just pay attention. Ride the currents. And avoid the rocks!
